col lected scutage and oth er moneys due t o th e Crown therefrom, b e ing
for
his se rvice excus ed h is ow n scutage o f 60 s . fro m that Honor. He al
so
answered f or th e rent o f Tackley, co. Oxon. , an d w as custodian of
the
l and s of Rober tFitzN eel, a te nant of the Honor i n th at year. A t
some
time w ithin the years 11 88 -97 Abbot Nicholas of Burt o n Abbey
confirmed
him in the tenure of the Abbe y 's manor o f Willington, co. D e rby ,
which
Joh n de Cumbrai had grante d to S imon. He witn essed a charter o f Ri
chard
de Cur zon con cernin g Kedleston , co. Derby, 1198- 99, and esso i ned
himse
l
f at t he Lichfield assiz es i n 1 203. Simon was a bene facto r of Darley
Abbe y. He married Pernel (Pelro n illa ), probabl y daughter of Ro ger de
CUMBRAI and cohe ir of another Roge r o f tha t name (b). He appears t o
have
