Christopher was born about 1559 in Of Samlesbury, Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Christopher's father was John SOUTHWORTH and his mother is Mary ASHETON GOULAND. His paternal grandfather was Thomas SOUTHWORTH and his paternal grandmother is Margery BUTLER; his maternal grandfather was Richard ASHTON and his maternal grandmother is Anne STRICKLAND. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John, Richard, Thomas, Gilbert, Leonard, Stanley, Jane, Mary, Margaret and Anne. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.
