William was born about 1690 in , James City Co., Va.. William's father was James SHIELDS and his mother was Hannah MAROT. His paternal grandfather was Robert SHIELDS and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth BRAY; his maternal grandparents were Jean (John) MAROT and Anne PASTEUR.
