Hiram D. was born on March 15th, 1858 in , Vinton, Ohio. Hiram D.'s father was George NIXON and his mother was Margaret Ann Trimmer. His paternal grandparents were George NIXON and Hannah WILSON; his maternal grandparents were Anthony Trimmer and Margaret Hunt. He had five brothers and four sisters, named David Palmer, Samuel Brady, William F., Boston A., Elihu, Martha L., Sarah Lovina, Margaret Lawrence and Sarah Elizabeth.
