Polly was born about 1788 in Amelia, Amelia, Va. Polly's father was Joseph HANKS and her mother was Lucy Nancy SHIPLEY. Her paternal grandparents were John HANKS and Sarah EVANS; her maternal grandfather was Robert SHIPLEY and her maternal grandmother is Sarah DORSEY. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Joshua David, George David, William, Charles, Joseph, Elizabeth and Nancy. She is the youngest of the nine children.General Notes
