Martha Ann was born on September 19th, 1839 in Cannon, TN. Martha Ann's father was John Porter Gannon and her mother was Elizabeth Hayes. Her paternal grandparents were George Gannon and Joanna Whitt. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Alfred J., William Carroll, John Quincy, James Beacham, Joanna, Frances T. and Mary Jane. She is the oldest of the eight children. She had two half-brothers, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender named Isaac, Samuel L. and Baby.-
