Dorothy was born about 1572 in Combermere, Cheshire, Eng.. Dorothy's father was Richard COTTON, ESQUIRE and her mother was Mary MAINWARING. Her paternal grandparents were George COTTON and Mary ONLEY; her maternal grandparents were Arthur MAINWARING and Margaret MAINWARING. She had three brothers and four sisters, named George, Arthur, Andrew, Mary, Elizabeth, Winifred and Frances. She was the second youngest of the eight children.
