Thomas was born in 1245 in Thomond, Connaught, Ireland.1 Thomas' father was Richard De Clare and his mother was Maud De Lacy. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert De Clare and Isabelle Marshall; his maternal grandparents were John De Lacy and Margaret De Quincy. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Gilbert, Bogo, Benedict, Robert, Isabel, Margaret, Rohese Agnes and Eglenteria.
