Juan Manuel "el Scritor" was born on May 5th, 1282 in Escalona, Spain.  Juan Manuel "el Scritor"'s father was Manuel of Castile and his mother was Beatrice de Savoy.  His paternal grandparents were III Ferdinand and Beatrice Elisabeth von Hohenstaufen; his maternal grandparents were Amadeus and Beatrix de Albon. He had a brother named Sancho.  He was the older of the two children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Alfonso Manuel, I, Violante and Constance von Hohenstaufen.  He died at the age of 66 in 1348 in Cordoba, Spain.

‌Juan Manuel "el Scritor" and Blanca were married in a religious ceremony in 1328.  They had two daughters named Beatriz Manuel and Juana Manuel.
