Samuel Woodson was born on September 19th, 1756 in "Slate Hill", Prince Edward County, Virginia.  Samuel Woodson's father was Nathaniel E. Venable and his mother was Elizabeth Michaux Woodson.  His paternal grandparents were Abraham II Venable and Martha Hannah Davis; his maternal grandparents were Richard Woodson and Ann Madelin Michaux. He had five brothers and eight sisters, named Abraham Bedford, Richard Nathaniel, Nathaniel E., William Lewis, Thomas, Bettie Ann, Martha, Ann, Ann, Agnes, Mary, Frances and Elizabeth Woodson.  He was the oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 64 on September 7th, 1821 in Sweet Springs, Monroe County, Virginia.

‌Samuel Woodson and Mary Scott were married in a religious ceremony on August 15th, 1781 in "Mulberry Hill", Charlotte County, Virginia.  They had five sons and seven daughters, named Henningham, Nathaniel E., Paul Carrington, Samuel Woodson, Abram Watkins, Elizabeth Woodson, Margeret Read, Ann Mayo, Mary Carrington, Clemintina, Agnes Woodson and Mildred Coles.
