Alexander II was born on February 24th, 1864.  Alexander II's father was George Thomson and his mother was Elizabeth Milne.  His paternal grandparents were George Alexander Thomson and Mary Harvey. He had nine brothers and two sisters, named George Alexander II, William I, Thomas, Richard, Alexander I, William II, Frank, Harry, Edward, Flora Harvey and Mary.  He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.
