Raymond was born on February 11th, 1903 in Sheldon, O'Brien, Iowa. Raymond's father was Richard F. Hindt and his mother was Frauke "Fannie" Smith. His maternal grandparents were Geerd (George) Smidt and Taalke Matilda (Tillie) Kruger. He had four brothers and a sister, named Ernest H., Clarence, George C., LeRoy and Matilda. He was the second youngest of the six children.-
