LeRoy was born on October 27th, 1904 in Sheldon, O'Brien, Iowa. LeRoy's father was Richard F. Hindt and his mother was Frauke "Fannie" Smith. His maternal grandparents were Geerd (George) Smidt and Taalke Matilda (Tillie) Kruger. He had four brothers and a sister, named Ernest H., Clarence, George C., Raymond and Matilda. He was the youngest of the six children.-
