Richard was born about 1250. Richard's father was Robert de Stafford and his mother was Alice Corbet. His paternal grandparents were Hervey de Stafford and Petronel de Ferrers; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Corbet and Isabel de Valletort. He had two brothers named Nicholas and Sir Robert. He was the second oldest of the three children.-
