His paternal grandparents were Gonzelon von Ardennes and Uda Von Metz; his maternal grandparents were Herman Billung and Hildegarde von Westerbourg. He had a brother and a sister, named Count of Verdun and Emmentrude. He was the oldest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, II and Countess of Flanders. He died on April 19th, 1044.-
