His paternal grandparents were Mayor of Austrasia Ansegisal and Saint Begue of Brabant; his maternal grandparents were Theuderic and Regent Clotilde. He had a sister named Rolande. Caribert was nephew of Pepin II, Mayor of the Palace of Austrasia, and was himself Count of the city of Laon after his father, Martin. Hisdaughter, Bertrada, became the Queen of King Pepin III, and mother ofCharlemagne.
