Henry's father was Geoffrey , Earl of Essex FitzPiers and her mother was Betrice de Say. Her paternal grandparents were Piers de Lutegareshale and Maud , Lady of Costow de Mandeville. She had two brothers and a sister, named William de Mandeville Earl of, Geoffrey , Earl of Essex and Maude FitzGeoffrey , Cts de Essex. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named John , Lord Kirtling Justiciar, William, Cecily and Hawise.
