Martin was born on October 25th, 1814 in Center Twp.,Gibson Co.,IN.1 Martin's father was William Terry and his mother was Barbara Ennis. His paternal grandparents were John Terry and Esther Brown; his maternal grandparents were Unknown and Elizabeth Ennis. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named William, John, Terry, Melinda, Nancy Jane, Matilda, Hettie "Easter", Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" and Serena. He was the third oldest of the ten children.
