Cynthia was born in 1833 in Perry County,Indiana. Cynthia's father was Elias Terry and her mother was Eleanor Sandage. Her paternal grandparents were John Terry and Esther Brown; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Sandage and Nancy Ann Simonson. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Uriah, Francis Marion, John B., Clayton, Judge Emery, Esther, Mary, Charlotte, Matilda and Lucinda. She had three half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Joseph, Harmon, Emery, Ellen, Jane, Daughter, Sarah, Marietta, Emily and Leora. She was buried in Goodman Cemetery,Margengo,Indiana.-
