Thomas was born about 1498 in of,St Donat's,Glamorganshire,Wales. Thomas' father was Edward Stradling Sir Knight and his mother was Elizabeth Arundel. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Stradling and Jonet Mathew. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Edward, Henry, John, Robert I, Catrin, Elsbeth III, Elsbeth IV and Jane. He had six half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named James, Jenkin, John "Gwyn", William, Peter, Robert II, Blanche, Bridget, Cecily, Elsbeth I, Elsbeth II, Joan, Mary and Cristin.
