In Henrico Co., VA Feb. 1719 court, Thomas Randolph sued Andrew Pruit, and later Hugh and Thomas Pruit. In Feb. 1720 Court, Michael Holland entered suits against John, Thomas and Hugh Pruit. In one of these, Hugh Pruit, John Lewis and John Hucabe stand security for Thomas Purit.
In Henrico Co., VA May 1721 Court, Thomas jefferson vs Thomas Pruit and Mary, his wife, for debt of 3 pounds 16 shillings. Settled for 15 shillings and 10 pence.
Upon petition of William Kent and John Robertson, ordered the sheriff summon Thomas to appear at next court and give security for estate of Nickolas Ducrey, deceased. In Henrico Co., VA Sep. 1722 court, upon part of William Kent, who was security for Mary Ducray's administration estate of Nicholas Ducrey, deceased, obtained an order from July Court to deliver said estate into his hands...upon inquery he finds a great part of the said estate wasted by Thomas purit who married the widow of said Nicholas Ducray. Ordered John Lewis, William Giles, William Womack, and William Elsup to appraise the estate of Nicholas ducrey.
The 1729 tithables for Parish of King William, Goochland Co., VA list:
Thomas Prouet - 1 tith. In 1729, thomas paid a fine of 50 pounds of tobacco for saying a bad word. The 1730 tithables for Goochland Co., VA, list Nicholas Ducrai - 1 tith, and Jean deCrais 1 tith. These are probably the stepsons of Thomas.
On March 2, 1731, Deed between thomas and Edward Scott, administrator of John Stephens, deceased in Goochland Co., VA. The 1731 tithab les for Goochland Co., VA, June 1731 Court, Thomas was fined 50 pounds of tobacco for swearing.

Thomas PREWITT and Mary (CHASTAIN?)

LifeNotes: He and Mary settled upriver (James River) from his parents at Almond Creek, Henrico Co., VA (from which Goochland Co., VA was formed in 1727). Thomas was one of the first settlers in the area.
In 1737, Thomas purchased land on Stocks Creek, Amelia Co, VA where they lived until they moved to southern Virginia.
On July 19, 1745, Thomas Prewitt began to dispose of his land holdings on Stocks Creek, Amelia Co., VA and over the next two years, purchased 1000 acres on Catawba Creek in Brunswick (Lunenburg) Co., VA.
In 1752, the part of Lunenburg Co., VA where Thomas and Mary lived, became part of the new Halifax Co., VA. Thomas was a blacksmith. In 1759, made gifts of land on Catawba Creek in Halifax Co., VA to 2 of his sons and his son-in-law John Farmer; these deeds were witnessed by Thomas Prewitt, Jr. and William Prewitt.

LifeNotes: She was possibly a cousin of Pierre Chastain. She was godmother to the one of his grandchildren, the child Zacharie of Suzanne Chastain and James Robinson. She was the widow of Nicholas DuCray when she married Thomas. She had 2 children of that marriage: Nicholas DuCray and Jean DuCray. Mary and Nicholas DuCray or de Crais had come to America on "The Nassau" in 1701.

Title translates as: "List of French, Swiss, Genevese (from Genoa, Switzerland), German, and Flemish (Germanic origin, in N. Belgium/N. France) embarked on the ship named the 'Nassau' for voyage to Virginia."
