John R. was born on September 21st, 1874. John R.'s father was Barton Stone Pierson and his mother was Elizabeth Parker. His paternal grandparents were James Weathers Pierson and Lanthy Shockley. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Nathanial, William, James R., Albert L., Barton Warren, Oren, Mary Elizabeth, Nancy, Emma and Lucy F.. He was the third youngest of the eleven children.-
