Her paternal grandparents were Humbert (Umberto) I 'Bianca Mano' Count of Aosta & Maurienne and Auxilia; her maternal grandparents were Odalrico Manfredo II Marchese de Torino-Albenza and Bertha of Este. She had a brother and a sister, named Amadeus (Amadeo) II Count of and Adelheid of. She had two half-brothers named Gebhard I Count of Sulzbach and Hermann I Count of Castile.
