His paternal grandparents were John Kilby and Elizabeth; his maternal grandparents were Abraham Eddins and Catherine Towles. He had five brothers and four sisters, named James, Humphrey, Reuban, Abraham, John, Elizabeth, Sarah (Sally), Mary (Polly) and Frances. He died in Wilkes County,North Carolina.-
