Helgi was born about 0528 in Denmark.1   Helgi's father was Halfdan Frodasson and her mother was Sigris.  Her paternal grandfather was Frodi Fridleifsson. She had a brother named Hroar.  She was the younger of the two children.

They had a son and a daughter, named Sigurd Hjort King of Ringerike and Yrsa.
