Joshua was born on September 27th, 1640 in .,Windsor,Hartford,Connecticut and his baptism took place there on September 27th, 1640. Joshua's father was Thomas HOLCOMBE OR HOLCOMB and his mother was Elizabeth FERGUSON. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert HOLCOMBE and Anne COURTENAY; his maternal grandparents were Thomas FERGUSON and Mrs. Elizabeth FERGUSON. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Benajah Thomas, Nathaniel (Lt), Johnathan, Ebenezer, Elizabeth, Mary, Abigail, Deborah, Deborah and Sarah. He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
