!MARRIAGE: #1 to Eliza J. Thornton.  She died 22 Feb 1887 at the ag e of 48.
She is buried in Clarence Cemetery, Dayton Township, Cedar Co., IA i n block 41,
lot 2.  They had two daughters.
!CHILDREN:
     A. Ida E. Dexter who was born abt. 1863 in PA.  She married Char les E. Read
        on 21 Apr 1894 when she was 31.  He was 30 and this was his s econd mar-
        riage and her first.  This info is contained in a marriage li sting from
        the State of Iowa, provided to me by my brother, Lewis B. Whi te, a copy
        of this document is in my files.
     B. Kathryn Dexter was born abt. 1866.  This info. is in a probat e document
        provided by Lew and is also in my files.
!MARRIAGE: #2 to Sarah M. who was 70 years old in the 1910 census.  T hey had
been married 8 years at this time.  She had been married twice before.
!BURIAL: He is also buried in the same cemetery as Eliza.  This inf o is from
the same source as the above.

SOURCE: Most of this data is provided from a Clarence, IA newspaper o f Sep. 15,
        1910.  My brother, Lewis B. White, (RIN 93), has provided m e with an
        enlarged
        version of the front page of that paper.  A second source i s the census
        record of 1850 from Braintrim Twp., Wyoming Co., PA.
MISC.:  Of interest in the article are the mentions of his children a nd his
        family.  The latter notes that he was the only male child o f six child-
        ren.  Lew and I have names for only five, including our ances tor Sarah.
        The article notes that only two of the sisters survive him i n 1910.

MARRIAGES:  According to the paper he first married Eliza Jane Thornt on in 1856
        at Auburn, PA.  To this union were born three children:
        A.  Emma Arminda Dexter who died in early childhood.
        B.  Ida Elizabeth who subsequently married C. E. Read.  Ther e is more
            information on this marriage in the Dexter file.
        C.  Kathryn who is called Miss in the article and probably i s not wed
            at this time (1910).
        Both girls are living in Clarence, IA on the date of the pape r.
        They moved to Clarence in 1868.  Eliza dies suddenly on 22 Fe b 1887.

Marriage number two is to Sarah Melinda Hayes who had previously been
        wed to a Mr. Acott, who died, and Garrett Flansberg in 1881 i n Berne,
        NY.  She dies on a trip to that city with James.  She was bor n 27 Nov
        1839 in Berne and died very suddenly at the home of one of he r step-
        children on 6 Sep 1910.  The front page article contains an e xcellent
        eulogy on both her and James' deaths.
