Marie Anne was born on January 26th, 1698 in La Perade, Champlain, PQ, Canada. Marie Anne's father was Jean-Jacques Dit St Amand Degerlais and her mother was Marie Jeanne Trudel. Her paternal grandparents were Ferdinand De Gerlais Seigneur De Hannetaux and Dorothee Cona; her maternal grandparents were Jean Pierretrudel and Marguerite Thomas. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Antoine, Pierre De Gerlais, Jean-François, Catherine De Gerlais Dit, Marie Madeleine De Gerlais, Jeanne, Marie-Josephte De Gerlais Dit and Marguerite Du Gerlais. She was the youngest of the nine children.-
