Emma was born about 1060 in Montgomery, Montgomery, Wales.  Emma's father was Roger De Montgomery Earl of Shrewsbury and her mother was Mabel Talvas Heiress Of Belleme. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Robert, Hugues De, Robert II (De Belleme) De, Roger II De, Phillip, Arnulph De, Maude De, Sibyl and Mabel.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
