Major Thomas VI Merritt 
Thomas VI was born in 1709 in Rye.Westchester Co., New York. Thomas VI's father was Thomas III Merritt and his mother was Martha Marshall. His paternal grandparents were Thomas II Merritt and Jane Sherwood. He had three brothers and a sister, named Edward, John, Benoni and Mercy. He was the second youngest of the five children.
