Dewit Clinton was born on January 31st, 1830 in Summit,Ohio.1 Dewit Clinton's father was Amos Searles and his mother was Hannah Hurlbut. His maternal grandparents were Timothy Hurlbut and Abigail Stocking. He had two sisters named Amelia and Helen. He was the second oldest of the three children.
