He had six brothers and two sisters, named Thomas Jr, Samuel, Stephen, Cornelius, Cornelius, Joseph, Lydia and Mary. BIOGRAPHY: "'Pedigree of the Late Samuel Hurlbut and his wife Jerusha (Higgins) Hurlbut,' Henry H Hurlbut, 1861.
"Serg't John Hurlbut, born in Wethersfield, Conn, March 8th 1642, learned the trade of Blacksmith of his father, and after he was of age, worked at Wethersfield and Killingworth.At the age of twenty-seven he removed to Middletown under a contract with thesettlers to 'do the town work of Smithing for seven years,' which agreement hecarried out. Industrious and successful in his calling he subsequently becamea large landholder, and one of the prominent men of the place. -E Stearns.
