His paternal grandparents were Robert Hankins and Sarah Curry; his maternal grandparents were Lewis Judge Salla and Julia Ann Gordon. He had seven sisters named Sarah, Alice, Julia Ann, Dolly, Molly, Marietta and Katie. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 41 on July 19th, 1893.-
