Roger was born about 1155 in Bramber,Sussex,England. Roger's father was William De Braiose and his mother was Bertha de Pîtres of Gloucester. His paternal grandparents were Philip De Braiose and Aenor De Totnais; his maternal grandparents were Miles de Pîtres of , Earl of Hereford Gloucester and Sybil de Neufmarche. He had seven brothers and seven sisters, named William, Philip de, Engeram, William de, Reginald, John de, Giles, Maud, Sybil de, Isabel de, Gillian de, Susanna Maud de, Matilda and Bertha De.
