‌Samuel and Parmelia were married in a religious ceremony before 1827 in Jackson County, Indiana.  They had six sons and three daughters, named James, John Park Custis, William, David, Samuel Thornton, Samuel, Melinda Catharine, Mary Elizabeth and Sally Ann.
