Heltonville - Russell Sowders, 71, of R. 1, Heltonville, died
Saturday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 20, 1919, in Monroe county, he was the son of Vernon and
Zelphia (Arney) Sowders. He worked as a stonecutter in the limestone
quarries. He was a military veteran of World War II and was a member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Oolitic. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his wife, Floene Smith; five sons, Vernon Sowders
of Bloomington, Ted Sowders of Oolitic, Joe Sowders of Bedford, and
Raymond Sowders and Mike Sowders, both of Heltonville; three daughters,
Kay Covey of Springville, Georgia Garrison of Bedford and Vickie Sparks
of Heltonville; three brothers, Wendell Sowders of Arizona, Bill Sowders
of Smithville and Larry Sowders of Bloomington; three daughters, Kay
Covey of Springville, Georgia Garrison of Bedford and Vickie Sparks of
Heltonville; three brothers, Wendell Sowders of Arizona, Bill Sowders of
Smithville and Larry Sowders of Bloomington; and two sisters, Laverne
Tarter and Kathleen Deckard, both of Smithville.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Sowders and one
sister; Irene McCammon.
services will be 2 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville
with Brother Dean Pickett officiating.
Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery.[southernrarl.FTW]
