Living's father was Russell Sowders and his mother was Ruby Floene Smith. His paternal grandparents were Vernon Sowders and Zelphie Arney; his maternal grandparents were Perry Smith and Ruth Etta Glascoe. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Raymond Eugene, Joseph Mark, Michael Dee, Vernon, Kay, Living and Vicky Ann. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Joseph Mark, Vernon and Vicky Ann.-
