Her paternal grandparents were Richard Masterson and Sarah Shore; her maternal grandparents were Dennis Abbett and Mary ?. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Dennis, Thomas Peniston, Jesse Holman, Mary C. and Eliza Jane. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.-
