Wincy Sophia was born on October 31st, 1844 in Anson County, North Carolina.1 Wincy Sophia's father was Risden H. Bennett and her mother was Charity Ann Ingram. Her paternal grandparents were William Bennett and Susannah Dunn; her maternal grandparents were Lemuel Ingram and Sophia Wood Billingsley. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Pressley Lemuel, Roland Risden, Eugenia and Wincy L. She was the third oldest of the five children.-
