Wincy L was born in 1846 in Anson County, North Carolina.1   Wincy L's father was Risden H. Bennett and her mother was Charity Ann Ingram.  Her paternal grandparents were William Bennett and Susannah Dunn; her maternal grandparents were Lemuel Ingram and Sophia Wood Billingsley. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Pressley Lemuel, Roland Risden, Eugenia and Wincy Sophia.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
