John was born in 1709 in New Amsterdam, NY.1 John's father was Francis Jochem and his mother was Millie Felty. His paternal grandfather was Mathias Jochem. He had six brothers named Mathias, Jacob, Conrad, Felty, George and Valentine. He was the second oldest of the seven children.General Notes
