Olaf Cuar's father was Sitric II Sigtryggr Gale and his mother was Edith of England. His paternal grandfather was Sitric Sigtryggr Halfdansson; his maternal grandparents were Edward I the Elder and Ecgwyn of Wessex. He had a brother and a sister, named Harald and Gyda of Dublin.
