Jeremiah was born in 1771 in Edgefield Co, SC.1 Jeremiah's father was William Wellman RILEY and his mother was Catherine UNKNOWN. His paternal grandparents were John RILEY and Elizabeth UNKNOWN. He had seven brothers and a sister, named George Washington, James, John, Elijah, Elizabeth, Enoch M. Parsons, William Wellman and Mary. He died in probably, AL.1 General Notes

Jeremiah married Jane Gibson in 1792. They had twelve shildren. All of the chil dren were born in Edgefield Co SC. Concerning the land they settled on, the s tory is that jeremiah and his brothers got their land grants in Monroe and Cone cuh Co by way of President George Washington. Washington had been a family frie nd of the sons of Eliphaz when they were Living in Maryland. A copy of a land grant is included where Jeremiah purchased 80 acres of land in Cahaba, AL on Nov 30 1831. Jeremiah's will was recorded on April 8 1832 and he died in 1833 Monroe Co.
