Obituary Wheaton? MO Advertiser, February 25 1981 Services
for Richard Wimbern Powell, 82, Wehaton, who died last
Monday at St. Vincent's Hospital, Monett, after a long
illness, were held at 2 pm last Wednesday at the McQueen
Funeral Home in Wheaton. The Rev. Jim Hillake? oficiated
and burial was in Rocky Comfort Cemetery. Lawrence Butler,
Olen Borwn, Jerry Murphy, Kelly Garrison, Vernon Still and
Lawrence Ridenour served as pallbears. Mr. Powell was bonr
Feb. 22, 1898, in Bates County, and was a long-time
resident of the Wheaton community. He retired in 1946 as
section foreman for the M & NA RAilroad and served as night
watchman and depty sheriff at Wheaton for 13 years. He was
a member of the Wheaton Baptist Chruch. HIs wife, Dora
Andrew Powell, whom he married July 15, 1923, in Ridgely,
survives. Also surving are four sons, Dillard Powell,
Eugene Powell and Benny Powell all of Wichita, Kansas, and
Donald Powell, Wehaton; five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
