Powhatan was born in 1767 in ,,Cumberland, VA.1 Powhatan's father was John Netherland and her mother was Mary Ann Mosby. Her paternal grandparents were John Netherland and Sarah Unknown; her maternal grandparents were Benjamin MOSBY and Mary POINDEXTER. She had eight brothers and five sisters, named Benjamin, Wade, Richard, Littleberry, John, Joseph, Samuel, William C., Elizabeth, Francis, Sarah, Polly and Mary. She was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children.-
