John was born in BROUGHTON GIFFORD, WILTS, ENGLAND.1 John's father was Elias IV Giffard and his mother was Alice Maltravers. His paternal grandparents were Elis IV Gifford and Maud FitzHarding de Berkeley; his maternal grandparents were John de Maltravers and Hawise. He was an only child. He died on May 29th, 1299 in Boynton, Wiltshire.1 General Notes
