1985 Henry J. and Mattie (Zell) Edwards Henry J. Edwards
was born Juen 7 1865, at Quincy, Illinois. He came to
Oregon about 1892, livein in Baker and Union Co. He later
moved to Medford, and in 1900 he came to Prineville. On
June 7, 1899, he married Mattie Zell, dau. of Mr. and Mrs.
Peter Zell, born in Des Moines, IA, December 15 1787. They
live for a while in Medford and then moved to Crook County
and took up a homestead on Powell Butte. On 1879, Mattie,
with her parents and borhter Ben, started across the plaisn
in a covered wagon. At the end of four months on the road
they arrived in Prineville and settled on a ranch about two
and one-half miles northeeast of Prineville... Henry passed
away May 3 1949 and Mattie died Jan. 13 1956. Mattie was
Pioneer Queen of Crook County in 1952. Wilbur Edwards was
born in 1900 and now lives in Prineville in one of the
houses his grandfather built. In 1936. IN 1936 he married
Bessie Kincade of John Day. They had one son and three
daughters: Donald, Kathleen, Penny and Beverly. Ernest
Edwards was born in 1902 in Prineville and married Lucille
Thompson in 1931 in Prineville. They had one son, Ernest
adn a daughter, Verna Mae Bertram. Velma Edwards was bonr
in 1904 in Prineville. She went to frade school at Powell
Butte and high school at Prineville. On Arpil 23, 1922 she
married Roy E. Moffitt of Powell Butte who was also form a
pioneer family. Berna Edwards was born in 1906 and is now
MRs. Fred Cheatah. They live at Kahula, Hawaii. Dorothy
Edwards, tghe youngest daughter, was born in 1916 at
Prineville. She married John L. Hatch on Sept 27 1940. They
