Mercer Co. Ky Box P4 Anthony Prewitt vs Francis Petty Sept
20, 1798 Henry BAiley's depsotiton states...Sept 26, 1798;
"...that Walker had said that Anthony Prewitt would not pay
debts unless compelled to by law abut tha 'Old Man Prewitt'
Anthony's father would pay..." Deposition was given at the
hosue of Francis Petty.
Davis Petty and Fracins M. Petty gave depsoitions at the
house of Francis Petty in Halifax Co. VA. in April 16 1799
stating that ..." about 1776 Davis Petty was about to marry
Polly Prewitt, and that Isham Prewitt Sr. said in a
conversation with Francis M. Petty...that if Davis Petty
did marry his daughter, Polly Prewitt that he would give
the said Petty two negros, Darcas and Peter. (the latter
one at his death).The said Davis Petty did marry the said
Polly Prewitt in 1776 and received the negros Darcas under
contract...and in 1789 Peter was taken to Kentucky and was
at the house of Anthony PREWITT in 1799.
Deposition of Davis Petty April 15, 1799 in Halifax Co.VA
at house of Francis M. Petty states that in the year of
1786 Anthony PREWITT and all the rest of the fmaily were
about to remove to Kentucky and to carry the negro Peter
with them which said negro the said Petty conceived to be
his property, and the depondent whent down to Charlotte
County and mentioned the same to the said Prewitt and that
he thought ahrd of him for taking this negro...the said
Anthony Prewitt said that he would carry Peter to Kentucky
with him...that said Peter had been with said Anthony
helping make a corp...and that Isham Prewitt, father of the
said Anthony was at that tiem in Kentucky...
Question: Did you not when you ere in Ky in 1787 see the
said Peter in the possession of the said Anthony Prewitt
and heard him command him as though he were his won.
Answer: He did not as he (Anthony) and his father at that
tiem lived as one family...
This suit was in June 1798...Petty had said that Anthony
Prewitt had stolen the negor Peter and Anthony had brought
the suit.
Halifax Co. VA Mary Brown aged 70 years gave her deposition
at teh house of James Watkins Oct 4 1798 in suit of Petty
Vs Prewitt...she states that in 1792 seh intrusted Francis
Petty with tobacco to sell and that he never settled in
full...she is the mother-in-law of said Francis Petty.
Mercer Co. records Bk 13 p 275 Setp 28 1824 Robert B.
Prewitt to Anthony Prewitt this deed recites..."all my
interest both legal and equitable in land whereon I now
dwell 22 acres...adj. Anthony Prewitt and Isham. Joseph
Prewitt witness.
Mercer Co. records Bk 8 p 493 Thomas Crawford, adm. of
Charles Pwoell, deceased, May 7 1812 deeds to Anthony
PErwitt, 108 acres in line with Wm. Bottom.
