Malcolm III Canmore 
Malcolm III was born in 1031 in Of, Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.1 Malcolm III's father was Duncan I MacCrinan and his mother was Sybil Aelflaed. His paternal grandparents were Crinan Grimus de Mormaer and Bethoc (Beatrix) of Scotland; his maternal grandparents were Ealdorman Of Northumbria Uchtred and Eggfrida of Chester. He had two brothers and a sister, named Maelmuir of Athol, Donald III and Margaret of Scotland. He died at the age of 62 on November 13th, 1093 in Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, England. He was buried in Holy Trinity Church, Dumferline, Fifeshire, Scotland.1 1 General Notes

He based his claim to the crown on his wife's royal des cent (Duncan's former wife Sybal). Malcolm III, son of Duncan I, and Earl Siward of Northumbe rland defeated Macbeth at Dunsinane in 1054, but they did not dethrone him. Three years later , Malcolm III killed Macbeth at Lumphanan. Macbeth's stepson Lulach reigned for a few months , and then Malcolm III succeeded him as king. William Shakespeare based his play, Macbeth, o ne of his greatest tragedies, upon a distorted version of these events which he found in Raph ael Holinshed's 'Chronicle of Scottish History.' The only kernel of historical truth in the p lay is Duncan's death at the hand of Macbeth. From this fact, Shakespeare drew his portrait o f ambition leading to a violent and tragic end.
