Martha Catharine was born in 1841 in Dauphin Co., PA. Martha Catharine's father was William Daniel Slaymaker and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Slaymaker. Her paternal grandparents were Amos Slaymaker and Isabella Fleming; her maternal grandparents were John, Jr. Slaymaker and Jeannett McIlvaine. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Amos Barr, William Alexander, Henry Calvin, Isabella, Jane Dickson, Elizabeth Anna, Faithful Mary and Sarah Rebecca.
